Mrs. Emily Wood

Meet the Teacher

"Striving to create a curriculum of inclusivity, authentic creation, and challenging experiences. Passionate about sharing the compassion, self-expression, hope, tolerance, and appreciation that art can bring."

"Stop thinking about artworks as objects, and START thinking about them as triggers for experiences."
-Roy Ascott

Whoa! This is my eighth year at PBL, as well as my sixth year teaching.  My first six years were such a great experience, and I have learned so much.  This is a special place with many talented staff members and students; I am thankful to be here! As well as teaching Art II, Art III, 2D/3D, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, I also sponsor Art League, am a class sponsor, and the Delta Habitat for Humanity Service Trip Leader.

I also teach an
Art Camp at the Paxton Park District for grades 1-8 in the summer.

I currently reside in Paxton with my husband, Trevor, and our adorable dog, Blue.  Trevor works as a Digital Advertiser and Graphic Designer in Champaign and Arcola, IL, and Blue is at the top of her field, car counting.

I was born and raised in a rural community, Lewistown, IL with one older brother, Jay, an Assistant Principal in Canton, IL , and my twin brother, Adam and his wife Brittany, work in Cardiac Rehab in Utah.  My parents are both recently retired; my mom after teaching at the elementary level for over 25 years.

After graduation I attended Spoon River College where I graduated with an Associates in Arts Degree and Certificates in Web Design and Electronic Design.  While attending SRC I was involved with the student government and served as the student trustee.
I then transferred to Western Illinois University in Macomb.  I graduated in December 2012 with my Bachelors in Art Education.  While attending WIU I served as the Vice-President of the National Art Education Association Student Chapter, and the President of FUEL, an on-campus ministry.  Currently, I attend art education conferences at the Krannert Art Museum to continue to bring new things into the classroom.

My first love in the art world was for photography and graphic design.  I later found my niche in the fine art side and focused heavily in both areas throughout my college career.  I have a wonderfully supportive family and group of friends.  I am blessed by them daily.
I have a love for people, service, community, music,
all things art, and learning new things!

Some of my favorite things are:
people, sunshine, tea, coffee, coffee mugs.
Fall, Christmas, pinterest.com,
esty.com, family, friends, music,
acoustic guitar, yellow, dogs, daises,
Jack Johnson, naps, my Mac, TOMS,
thrift stores, the outdoors, books...

People who inspire me:
Mom, my brothers, my close friends, Dad
Annie Lebovitz, Blake Mycoskie,
 Jesus, Vik Muniz, Grandpa W.
The Snowmans, Shelby Adams, Spencer Tunik...
