Art I Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Art I consists of the study of the elements and principles of art, through basic experiences in painting, sculpture, drawing, graphic arts, ceramics, etc. Knowledge of basic skills and techniques, and ability to recognize art of all forms through the study of art history will be key, using current literature and technology as a resource. Also, an ability to express one's own ideas, planning, research, and problem solving are major curriculum concerns.
Students will identify and discuss key factors for critiquing and evaluating works of art, and express his or her educated opinion, verbally and written. Students will maintain a working journal consisting of class notes, sketches, and artist statements; reflecting on current and past projects. Students will demonstrate and explore the understanding of 2D and 3D artworks through the use of a variety of material, tools, and techniques.
